It is with deep sadness

It is with deep sadness that we let you know of the passing of Charlie Childs on Friday 27/3/20.

Charlie passed away at home having come out of hospital earlier in the week following his stroke in February.

The founder member of Generation 2 table tennis club in 1970, he leaves a very long legacy  to the club and table tennis in general.

Charlie served in many high level roles in several organisations including current roles as Non-Executive Director of Table Tennis England and Chairman of Governors at Fareham Academy. Until the middle of last year he was also heavily involved with British Para Table Tennis.

He was also a Level 3 TTE coach, where he had great success with many young players in the time I have been privileged to be a member of the club, with at least 3 I know of representing England in international competition and others being in England training camps.

Before this he had coached several other players to be very high level England players as well and I am sure there is more given his long association with table tennis. His personal drive to bring young people into table tennis and encourage others is something we have all witnessed and I am sure admired.

Charlie enjoyed a successful playing career himself, with a strong forehand game and tactically astute he was a tough competitor with many league and tournament trophies to his name.

We will keep you all informed of  how we will proceed to honour him in this the 50th year of the founding of Generation 2 Table Tennis club.
